Videolink2me lets you make video calls in your browser by sharing a link. You can use it without creating an account, and we have deliberately kept the amount of data we hold small. This page explains exactly what we store, why, how long we keep it, and how to get rid of it.

Questions about anything here: [email protected].

Your calls are not recorded

Audio and video travel directly between participants (peer-to-peer, using WebRTC) and are encrypted in transit. We do not record, store, or listen to your calls, and neither the audio nor the video passes through our servers in a form we could keep.

When a direct connection cannot be established — usually because of a restrictive firewall or mobile network — the encrypted media is relayed through a TURN server so the call still works. The relay forwards the stream; it does not store it.

The same applies to chat messages and shared files: they are sent over the direct connection between participants and are never stored on our servers. A message sent while the other person is disconnected is simply lost.

What we collect

If you just make a call (no account)

We store no personal information about you. What we do keep is:

  • Room records — the random room code, and the room password if you set one (stored as a hash, not as readable text).
  • Call statistics — when a call started and ended, how long it lasted, how many people took part, whether a relay server was needed, and the country the connection came from. This is how we find and fix connection problems.
  • Anonymous usage events — for example that a room link was copied, or that someone joined or left. These are tied to the room code, not to a person.

We look up the country from your IP address when you connect, and then discard the IP address. We do not store IP addresses in our database.

If you sign in with Google (optional)

Signing in exists for one reason: so your saved rooms survive clearing your browser or switching devices. It is entirely optional and nothing else in the service requires it. When you sign in we receive and store:

  • Your email address and name from your Google profile
  • The account identifier Google uses for you
  • The rooms you chose to save, with the names you gave them

We ask Google only for your basic profile and email. We cannot see your Google password, your contacts, your files, or anything else in your Google account. We keep this data until you delete your account.

If you create a personal room

A personal room is a permanent, named address for calls. For one we store the room name, a hashed password, and anything you choose to add to the profile — an email address, a photo, a background image, and a welcome message.

If you turn on arrival notifications

If you ask to be told when someone joins your room, your browser gives us a notification address for that specific browser, plus the keys needed to deliver a message to it. We use it once, to send that one notification, and delete it immediately afterwards. If the other person never arrives, we delete it within 12 hours anyway. It cannot be used to identify you or to send you anything else.

If you send us feedback

The feedback form sends us your email address, your message, and your browser's user-agent string, so we can reply and reproduce the problem. It reaches us by email and is not otherwise stored.

Information kept in your browser

Some things are stored only on your own device, using your browser's local storage. We never receive them unless you sign in and choose to sync your saved rooms. They include your saved rooms and their names, which rooms you have visited or created, your language and light/dark preference, your chosen camera and microphone, the name you type before joining a call, and whether you have dismissed a prompt.

You can clear all of it at any time by clearing site data in your browser settings.

Cookies

If you sign in with Google, we set one cookie holding your signed-in session, so you stay signed in between visits. It lasts up to 180 days, or until you sign out. We also use a small cookie to remember whether you have visited before, so first-time visitors get an introduction page.

Our advertising and analytics providers set their own cookies — see below.

Third-party services

We use a small number of outside services. Each has its own privacy policy:

  • Google Analytics — anonymous statistics about how the site is used, so we can see which features work. Google Privacy Policy
  • Google AdSense — advertising, which is what keeps the service free. Google may use cookies to show ads based on your previous visits. You can control this at My Ad Center.
  • Google Sign-In — only if you choose to sign in. Google Privacy Policy
  • Browser push services — if you turn on arrival notifications, the notification is delivered by your browser maker's service (Google for Chrome, Mozilla for Firefox).
  • Error and diagnostic logging — when you are in a call, technical messages about the connection are sent to our logging service so we can investigate failures. These describe the connection, not its contents.
  • Amazon Web Services — delivers the email you send through the feedback form.

How long we keep things

  • Account and saved rooms — until you delete your account.
  • Personal rooms — until you ask us to remove them.
  • Usage events — 90 days, then deleted automatically.
  • Notification addresses — used once and deleted, or within 12 hours.
  • Call statistics — kept as aggregate records with no personal data attached.
  • Audio, video, chat and files — never stored at all.

Your rights and how to use them

If you have signed in, you can delete your account and everything attached to it at any time from the sign-in area on the home screen. Deletion is immediate and removes your email address, your name, and your synced saved rooms from our servers.

You can also sign out on a single device without deleting anything, turn off notification permission in your browser settings, and clear everything stored locally by clearing site data.

Depending on where you live — including in the European Union and the United Kingdom — you have the right to ask what data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, and to receive a copy. Write to [email protected] and we will respond.

Children

Videolink2me is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will remove it.

Security

Traffic to the site is encrypted, call media is encrypted between participants, and passwords are stored hashed rather than in readable form. No service can promise perfect security, but we reduce the risk mainly by holding as little as possible: for most people, we hold nothing personal at all.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Continuing to use Videolink2me after a change means you accept the updated policy.
